Do you think I was cruel to call my daughter Jasmine Chloe Bishop (JCB)?

When I registered my daughters name I didnt realise her initials would be JCB until the registra said but because I iked her name Jasmine Chloe Bishop I kept it. Now that she is 4 years old people call her Digger or JCB do you think I was cruel to keep it or should I have changed it.

Reply:I don't see how it's cruel, she has a nice name and initials that don't stand for anything embarrassing, as far as I can tell.





Like another commenter said, I'm sure that by the time she's older people will stop calling her "Digger" or "JCB" and I'm sure by the time she's older she'll decide what nickname she wants to go by, if any.





You should also look at it this way too: there are others who, quite possibly, have it worse. I still don't understand how the initials JCB are bad, but there are people out in the world with the initials STD or OCD, imagine the teasing they have to face!

Nah, I don't think it was cruel, and you see a lot worse! A lot of peoples initials spell out something - if it was a rude word then maybe, I have a friend who's initials are T. I. T. lol. If the children are doing it a jokey way then there's no harm done - if they are doing it to seriously tease her then it's sad but don't blame yourself - kids can be cruel and will ALWAYS find something to pick on, if it wasn't that then they would have found something else!





Jasmine Chloe is a BEAUTIFUL name, don't worry about it! :-)

Anyway, a person rarely goes by their full name beyond early childhood, so she will just be Jasmine Bishop when she is old enough to care. People just don't rely on their initials so much.





I think you need to nip the name-calling in the bud. People have no right (ESPECIALLY ADULTS) to tease a child for her name, and you as the parent are her only advocate. Stand up for her now while she is young and correct people each time they call her by a nickname or initials in an inappropriate way. You did not make a mistake in naming your daughter; they are being immature and rude.





By the way, consider your daughter's feelings, and avoid making it sound like you are trying to "hide" her name when you correct others. She should not have to feel ashamed. Explain to her that you are correcting others because they made a "mistake" when they called her something other than her name.

Anyway, I think the nickname Digger is quite cool. But its gonna be a love it or hate it typa thing... So she needs to embrace it now or forever get upset when kids taunt her... If she doesnt like people knowing her intials then dont tell them! Its not something people NEED to know.





You werent cruel... Just talk it through with your daughter and follow whatever route she wants to take with the nicknames.

Most people don't even know someones middle name. I doubt she will get teased over this one and the names are pretty.
Reply:I knew a girl who's last name began with an A and she named her daughter Alicia Ann so her initials are AAA Triple A.
Reply:It could turn out to be a cute nickname! I've always wanted a nick name but people just say my full name which sucks - Caroline! I like 2 b called Cara but it doesn't catch on. JCB's rule anyway :P
