This will prove irritating if taken internally .Consumption in

But it is not an edible plant neither it has any attractive taste,





why any animal will eat it? In fact animals have inherent ability to steer clear of such plants.

I recently went to a friends house, and she made me a cup of jasmine and green tea. It tasted SO good! I had to go out and buy some for myself.





Are there any benefits to this tea? I know that green tea is supposed to be good for you but what about the jasmine? What does that do?

Jasmine tea?

I have recently become addicted to jasmine tea and the other day i was reading about all the things that it is good for. Gum Disease, Psoriasis, Anxiety. The funny thing is, I suffer from all the things on the list. My body must have craved jasmine tea and I ended up getting some.





My body and my unconscious must have been working together to fix me without my conscious mind knowing.





My question is: Dont you think that's just marvellous?

Reply:Yes, it is just for flavour, and if it is really Chinese, the green "tea" is not from a tea plant as we know it, but from another plant. If you use really jasmine tea and not tea bags, have a look at the leaves before you throw them away. They are very long and thin. Not tea leaves at all. But it tastes wonderful! By far my favourite! I always buy a supply when I am in China.
Reply:Its just flavoring. There is no help from it besides relaxation... I love green tea to haha! I found that green tea helps me stay awake and fresh during the day.

Jasmine - inside or out?

I've bought a little pot with a jasmine hoop - water it regular (throughly once a week) but the buds have gone brown before they have blossomed...


Is it because Jasmine ismeant to be outside? Lack of water? Too much water?


I'm clueless as you can tell when it comes to plants :)

it's important to feel the soil each time you water and only water when it is not moist to the touch. Make sure the pot has drainage holes as well, because sitting in water is as bad as letting it dry out. If you live in a warm climate, yes jasmine are quite happy outside. If not, you'll need to wait until it warms up a bit before letting it outside. And once outside, keep in mind that the pot will dry out a LOT quicker than in the house, so you will need to check the soil daily to see if it needs watering.
Reply:I've had a Jasmine Officianalis growing outside against a fence for years. It's fabulous on a warm summer evening just to sit out there and smell the perfume.


Did you check to see if it is pot-bound? It may need repotting into fresh compost and they need quite large pots.
Reply:It is difficult to keep Jasmine inside. Is it getting enough sunshine? Jasmine needs tons and tons of sunshine. Don't put it in direct sunlight though, as you don't want to roast it.





Jasmine is also very prone to getting spider mites. Tiny little bugs. If you see these on it, you can usually use a soap and water spray to kill them. Good luck!

Confederate jasmine and its wonderful.has white flowers and dark green small leaf vine..grows and blooms well in shade or sun..I have one i love it! You cant kill it..and its nice too..not real invasive..but climbs good and can be trained well.It doesnt bloom a whole lot so you may have never seen the very tiny small white very fragrent flowers so its not a prob.

We drink loose Jasmine Tea here, i love it for the flavor, havent really looked online for health benefits, but am asking you, the yahoo community if you drink Jasmine Tea for health reasons or flavor or both??

I am a former chef and live in Toronto Canada, I buy it loose from a Chinese specialty tea store, I get a premium brand, as far as health benefits, all tea is good for you in many ways, and if you get a green tea based on it is better, but most of the jasmine tea around is made by adding the fragrant jasmine flower to a fermented black tea of sorts.





If you have a good Asian grocery or herbal specialist on town you may find it in the green tea form.

Does Jasmine tea have any healthy benefits?

Is Green Tea and Jasmine Tea the same? I don't think it is...but why hasn't Jasmine Tea caught on...it's the most delicious tea, good for digestion and has such a calming affect...yet I never see it promoted anywhere.





If Green Tea and Jasmine Tea are the same, something has happened to it in the process of putting it in a teabag! LOL I like loose leaf much more, but I don't think they are the same.

I was wondering if i can grow Jasmine in a pot or something over ground. I live in an apartment and i can't plant things in the ground. I really want to grow jasmine but I don't want to waste my money on it if it won't grow in a pot.

Growing jasmine?
Jasmine is a prolific plant and would do very well in a pot. Make sure you put something in the pot with the plant so that it can climb (Jasmine is a vine) and give it partial sun to full sun, Jasmine does not do well in the shade only. So unless your thumb is exceptionally brown (as in the opposite of a green thumb) you should do just fine. You can buy it at Lowes, Home Depot, any garden center or nursery.

Will planting Asiatic Jasmine for groundcover affect newly planted trees / bushes?

New to gardening! I just planted an Esperanza (Yellow Bell) plant as well as a Magnolia tree in my front yard. Both are about a year old and were previously in pots, each is about 3 feet tall. They seem to be doing okay (planted about 3 weeks ago). I have a very small front yard with 2 Mountain Laurel trees on one side and nothin on the other (aside from the baby Magnolia). I would like to plant Asiatic Jasmine as ground cover for the entire front yard, for water-saving purposes and to no longer have to mow.. and also because I cannot grow grass under the Mountain Laurels anyway.





My question is; if I plant the jasmine now, will it bother the newly planted tree and shrub? Do I need to set aside an area under the new plantings where the Jasmine will not go, with edging or something? I just don't want the Jasmine "competing" with the new transplants for water or whatever and I don't know enough about all this to know what to do at this point.

It's usually not a good idea to plant anything under a newly planted tree or shrub. The watering needs are considerably different for trees and shrubs and for perennials and annuals. More than likely over watering of the tree will occur.


If you plant it, I would plant it away from the tree a bit. And monitor your watering very very closely.
Reply:I wouldn't worry about it. I can't say that I've had that exact combination of plants but ordinarily any new perennial takes a season to settle in before it really takes off. Since all your plants are new you'll have to be sure to keep up on water for them for this season anyway, as they get established. By next season the Magnolia and the Esperanza should be in good shape to defend themselves from the Jasmine. It sounds pretty. I've always wanted a mountain laurel. Some day . . .

actually they are healthier but the smell is missed, generally "Jasmin green teas" have a lot of color, smell and flavor aids, just read the label. You can add a few rose buds to the Jasmin to give them a good smell and flavor

How does asian jasmine propagate?

I planted asian jasmine a couple months ago as a groundcover. I am now wondering how it spreads. I know that cuttings can be used to generate new plants, but does this plant species also spread by another method (i.e. seeds or something else)?


The reason I am asking is because I now have lots of little weed-like plants growing in the same area as I planted the jasmine. Normally, I would just assume they were weeds and pull them out. However, I have never seen weeds that look like these and they are not present anywhere else around my property. Also, I never saw these prior to planting the jasmine. Can these be seedlings? If they looked exactly the same as the jasmine, I would obviously think the answer was yes. However, the leaves look slightly different- these small plants have leaves with slightly rough edges, whereas the larger plants do not. Any ideas?

How does asian jasmine propagate?
Wherever the vine touches the ground, it can set roots. I'm not sure about Asian jasmine but, on some of my younger star jasmine some of the leaves have a different shape. Not that this has anything to do with jasmine, but, I notice on different trees, like some of my scrub oaks, first year growth is serrated, not smooth. So maybe your jasmine is the same. I would wait a few months to see what it is before you pull it.

Growing jasmine in Pennsylvania?

I'd like to grow jasmine, but I live in southwest Pennsylvania. I am in zone 6a, according to the USDA plant hardiness zone map. Coldest temperature is usually -5 to


-10 degrees. I have read that jasmine will not survive, that this is too cold for them. Is it possible to grow jasmine as an indoor plant? Has anyone tried? What would they need to succeed as a houseplant?

I also live in Pennsylvania. I think any plant can succeed as a house plant as long as their near a window where they can get sunlight and they'll need lots of water. They might also be fine outside for the summer but once the ground starts to freeze it will kill them.

What type of jasmine is this? And is it toxic?
I don't think this is a jasmine in the botanical sense. It looks like a vine in the Apocynaceae family (in which case it will have milky sap) rather than in the Oleaceae family (which is where true jasmine belongs). Many Apocynaceae are poisonous (best example is the shrub Oleander) but very often do have white, sweetly scented jasmine-like flowers. Sorry that I can't give a more specific answer ...

Does your jasmine have sweet smelling yellow flowers? My nephew ate some off my sister's plant and had to get his stomach pumped! I wouldn't worry about your dog eating toxic plants if he's outside and has plenty of toys, bones and room to run and play. My dogs have never eaten anything that's made them sick and they have two acres of wild flowers and woods to investigate.

My health teacher said yesterday that he thinks everyone should drink six glasses of green tea every day. He said something about the ingredients, but they're not actually listed on the box of tea.. it just says "green tea".


Well I don't like green tea. In fact, the only tea I've ever liked is jasmine green tea. As far as I can tell, there's nothing bad about it... no sugars, no CALORIES... but I didn't see anything on the ingredients that was really AMAZING about it either. Then again, it still only says "jasmine green tea." Doesn't tell you what's IN it.


I'd think it would be about the same, because it's just green tea made with jasmine blossoms, but I really don't know. Maybe jasmine blossoms are horrible for you.

Yes, you're right, the jasmine blossoms just add a nice scent, they're not bad for you at all.

I would not worry that ingredeints aren't specified. The ingredients of non-herbal teas are just leaves from a tea bush, unless other flavorings are specified. The difference between black tea and green tea is that black tea is fermented and green tea is not.
Reply:Green tea is supposed to have antioxidants that are good for the body. I've never heard of jasmine green tea but I can tell you if the label doesn't list the ingredients I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Are confederate jasmine and star jasmine the same plant?tree?

A friend planted a confederate jasmine and we went looking for info. Could not find specific details on confederate jasmine. Only found star jasmine (which looks the same). Star Jasmine can grow up to 30ft high and 6 ft. around. Does confederate jasmine do the same thing? Is it poisonous like the carolina jasmine?

They are the same (Trachelospermum jasminoides) being a vine that will grow 20-30 feet long. Nice glossy leaves and very strongly scented flowers that are attractive to bees. It can be trained on a trellis or over a doorway or it can be used as a groundcover. It likes full sun to partial shade.





I do not know if it is poisonous but I would NOT eat it. I think I have heard that it's sap can be an irritant to some people.


Find your local Extension office. They could tell you more.
